John is the only Texas candidate in this round of endorsements.
Let’s make sure he gets lots of Texas votes. This vote can be a critical launching point for John’s campaign. It
could mean contributions in the thousands from Democrats
around the nation. We hope the exposure will draw the attention
of the DNC and DCCC and lead to other endorsements from
progressive organizations.John’s official web site address is http://www.courageforcongress.org
John also launches his campaign officially, this weekend at 10:00 a.m.
on Saturday the 17th in Austin, at the east gate of the Texas Capitol
grounds. Please join us if you can.I am also asking you to spread the word throughout Texas and the
entire US. Send the following information with your own note
to all of your email contacts telling them that they can help
John Courage get the DFA-List endorsement.More Info on the Online Vote from DFA:
Democracy for America will host an online vote to determine
which congressional candidate will receive their first DFA-List
endorsement of 2006. The vote will be open to all challengers
and open seat candidates. The candidate with the most votes
at the end of balloting will receive a DFA-List endorsement
and a national e-mail from DFA’s Chair Jim Dean. The voting will take place in two stages. First, they will hold
an online vote to narrow the field of 30+ candidates that have
applied for DFA’s endorsement down to ten. They will then hold
an instant run-off vote amongst those 10 candidates to determine
the first endorsement of 2006.The voting for each round will last for five days and will be open
to all visitors to: www.democracyforamerica.com.
Safeguards will be in place to assure a one person-one vote
policy. Jim Dean’s e-mail appeal will be sent to supporters on
behalf of the top vote-getter during the week of September 27th.

There are only 2 Hispanics on the DFT candidate lists. I just went to the link & read all the names there. I am having a hard time not voting for one of only 2 Hispanics on the list. Courage is a good guy & deserves the votes as well, but I know Austin will mobilize lots of votes for him.
This vote narrows it down to the top 10. One candidate, Chacon, is young, but has an awesome volunteer record including helping the hearing impaired, an issue near & dear to my heart. The other, Zamora, is running against Hastert. Enough said. Any thoughts. about this?

Hi Margie
We’ll find out on Tuesday, which candidates made the top 10. We know that John Courage was in the top 10. He was second place the last time the blog for America showed the rankings. I understand your position about wanting to support Hispanics first and I guess that’s something you have to decide for yourself. I would however take into account that John was the only candidate from Texas. That’s not to say we shouldn’t support national Hispanic candidates but I’m going to give you a very good argument I heard recently. Every house seat in Congress is up for re-election. If everyone of us just worked in one district, our own, we could change the balance of Congress. It’s that grassroots effort that can unseat incumbents. He have that opportunity right now with all the screw ups of this administration. CD21 not only covers part of Travis but 5 different counties including parts of Bexar in San Antonio. We have lots of Hispanics in this district that are impacted by the decisions in this race. Lamar Smith is on board with U.S. Rep John Culberson (R-Texas) in supporting organizations like the Minutemen. See this story that’s still online

Border Patrol “Civilian Auxiliary” Proposed
http://www.woai.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=5563B550-5B97-4ABC-8E00-687ABE7BBD0A
Several Texas Congressmen are quietly circulating a proposal to approve ‘deputized civilians’ as an auxiliary to the U.S. Border Patrol, 1200 WOAI news reported today. The so called “Border Protection Corps” would consist of volunteers who go through a background check and receive training, and would then accompany Border Patrol officers as they search for illegal aliens and drug activity.

So my point is that we can think globally and nationally, but we need to act locally. Let’s not take for granted a seat that we have in our power to change. And it’s not just about getting the Austin vote out. This endorsement would bring in money nationally, so that John could run a more effective race with better media buys against Lamar Smith.
